It had been quite a while since I had photographed a wedding at Rivington Hall Barn, it is such a brilliant venue so I had been really looking forward to Ruth and James’ big day there – and it was well worth the wait!

Ruth and James are a fantastic couple. They are so much fun and extremely laid back and that is exactly what their wedding was like too. The whole day was based around having a brilliant time celebrating with their family and friends and everyone had the best day because of this.

From a photographer’s point of view, they really were the perfect couple – Ruth and James even brought their own wellies so we could go wandering around the grounds at Rivington taking bride and groom portraits, real dedication to wanting great photographs!

Wedding preparations

I started the day with James and his Best Man Karl as they were groomed and shaved at Close in Manchester. It was a really different way to start off a wedding day and I really enjoyed it, the staff were brilliant and didn’t bat an eyelid to me being there so a big thank you to them.

I then went to meet up with Ruth as she was got ready with her bridesmaids. Again, the atmosphere was fun and relaxed which made it the perfect wedding morning. After driving in to a barrier whilst leaving the car park and losing part of my car (why are the posts so low in car parks?!) it was off to the hills of Lancashire for the ceremony and the rest of the day.

Ceremony and reception

Rivington Hall Barn in Lancashire is an absolutely brilliant wedding venue. This spacious historic Grade II listed building is packed full of character and set in beautiful grounds with fields and woodland all around. It is just as photogenic inside as it is outside with so many brilliant locations for photographs. The hall itself is so well lit, full of fairy lights, which helps to create a really special and unique atmosphere and perfect for wedding celebrations.

The staff at Rivington are fantastic too and really make sure that the day goes perfectly. The whole day just felt so relaxed and it was a real pleasure to be a part of.

The ceremony was perfect and ended with Ruth and James literally skipping up the aisle together in happiness. The rest of the day was just as good with smiles and laughter everywhere. I loved being a part of it.

To Ruth and James, thank you so much again for asking me to be your photographer. I loved capturing your special day and it was really nice getting to know you both. I wish you both a very long and happy marriage together.
