Belle Epoque wedding photography

The award winning Belle Epoque in Knutsford is one of the most unique, stylish and popular wedding venues in Cheshire.

I have been lucky enough to have photographed a number of weddings at the Belle Epoque over the years and I every one has been so much fun and very memorable.

Built in 1907 and located on King Street in the centre Knutsford, the Belle Epoque is a truly one of a kind wedding venue. From the outside it looks a little bit like a very cool castle whilst on the inside it’s art nouveau interior gives it so much character.

Since I started photographing weddings 10 years ago, the Belle Epoque has been one of the most popular wedding venues in the North West. Not just with brides either, I know that myself and the wedding photographers I know always love working there as it is such a friendly venue. The staff at the Belle Epoque are always incredibly helpful and work closely with wedding suppliers to make sure that bride and grooms have the best day possible.

When they don’t have a wedding, the Belle Epoque is one of the best restaurants in Cheshire, which makes it a very popular choice for foodie bride and grooms. I can say from first hand experience that the food here is absolutely incredible and is sure to wow all your wedding guests.

The reasons I love photographing weddings at the Belle Epoque

There are so many reasons why I always love working at this amazing venue. The main one is that it is so photogenic. Inside, although it is quite a small venue (making it perfect for more intimate ceremonies) it has so much character and great spaces for photographs. Whereas outside there are so many brilliant places, the private roof garden at the back of the venue is brilliant and as soon as you step outside on to King Street there are so many photogenic places just a few yards away.

For even more variety, The Moor is just a two minute walk from the front door of the Belle Epoque. This is a really pretty little park and somewhere that I love going to, especially in the summer. Even though it is right next to it, it is completely different to King Street but that is really nice and gives great contrast to the photographs.

The Belle Epoque is also a venue I know very well which can help on the day. I have photographed weddings here all year round, from really hot days in the summer to cosy Christmas weddings in the winter and although the options we have for photographs are very different in the different seasons, I know the best places to use for fantastic photographs. This experience can be really useful.

The staff at the Belle Epoque have always been extremely friendly and helpful too. Bride and grooms who get married here have a lot of flexibility in tailoring their day exactly as they want it and weddings here always feel very personal and unique because of that.

I also really like the fact that the Belle Epoque is a family run business. Some larger venues which are part of a chain can lose a little of their personality because of that but the Belle Epoque is the complete opposite. For the past 40 years (I was very kindly invited to it’s 40th Birthday celebration), it has been owned and managed by the Mooney family which gives the venue a really personal and special feel.

Portrait photographs on King Street

One of the things I enjoy most about photographing weddings at the Belle Epoque is going out on to King Street with the bride and groom for portraits. King Street is such a pretty street with lots of independent shops. It also lots of quirky doors and alleyways which make fantastic locations for photographs. Although the street does allow traffic down down it, it is a single lane one way street and cars never mind stopping for a few seconds for bride and grooms. In fact most of the time passing cars will beep their horns in congratulations, just as people passing on the street do exactly the same. It makes for such a nice atmosphere. If you want to feel like a celebrity on your wedding day then this is the venue for you!
