Crewe Hall wedding photography

Crewe Hall is a breathtaking wedding venue, an absolute dream for a photographer. As soon you as you turn in to the venue and travel up the stunning driveway towards the main building, you can tell that this is somewhere special. It is a real ‘wow’ venue.

Located in beautiful Cheshire countryside, grade 1 listed Crewe Hall is perfect for weddings. It is extremely spacious and extremely elegant, an amazing backdrop for your photographs.

The main house, a 17th century mansion, is packed full of character and history. In fact the site of the main building dates back to 1170. The oak-panelled walls make for some stunning rooms, which wouldn’t look out of place in a period drama, whereas the newer part of the estate is extremely modern. The combination of the two styles works really well on a wedding day. The day time area is grand and opulent, whereas bride and grooms can really let their hair down and party in the newer section during the wedding reception in the evening!

Why I love working here

There are so many reasons why I think Crewe Hall is perfect for wedding photography. The main one is that is offers so many different options for pictures both inside and out. It really doesn’t matter what the weather is like with a venue as majestic and magical as this one, making it an excellent choice for both summer and winter weddings.

I love venues which are quite dark and atmospheric inside but have large, grand windows which let in beautiful light. The light at Crewe Hall is so nice and is perfect for bride and groom portraits.

Being quite dark inside also gives me the option to bring in my own light with either flash or video light, which I can then control. This opens up lots of creative possibilities, as you can see from the photograph at the top of this page from Suzie and Jay’s wedding. For this image I exposed for the lights in the Hall of Pillars and added a flash behind the bride and groom.

The gardens are stunning too. They are huge (8 acres!) and are perfect for natural light photography, especially for summer weddings. I love the sunset photographs which I took at Suzie and Jay’s wedding. The evening light sets across the gardens beautifully.

I also love that there is only ever one wedding a day hosted here. Some venues can have two or more weddings taking place on the same day which I’m personally not a fan of. This isn’t the case at Crewe Hall though and if you decide to get married here you know that the only wedding on your special day will be yours.

“We’ve almost no signal here and the wifi is rubbish but by hook and a bit of crook we’ve just seen those amazing photographs. Thank you, they are completely gorgeous and once more I’m crying!!”

The Chapel

One of my favourite parts of Crewe Hall is the Chapel. It is only small but is absolutely beautiful, a real work of art. It feels more like an intimate chapel you would find in the Vatican than a mansion in Cheshire! I don’t know of any other venue which has a Chapel like this in the middle of it, it really is unique and has to be seen to be really appreciated, the decoration and detail all around this space is incredible. The Chapel used to be used for services for the Crewe family when they used to live in the mansion, they would sit upstairs in their own pew. Services are no longer held in the Chapel but couples can still use it for wedding photographs.
