Earlier this week I met up with fantastic Cardiff wedding photographer John Archer for a one-to-one photography training day in Manchester 🙂
We split the day in to two sections, during the morning we discussed ways in which John could help grow his wedding photography business (marketing, building up various referral sources, relationship building, software and SEO etc) and we then met up with my lovely friend Kit for a two hour portrait shoot in Walkden Gardens in Manchester. The portrait shoot gave me the opportunity to show John how I photograph brides as well as various forms of off-camera lighting techniques. We then had lunch before John saw me edit the images which I had taken on the shoot and I could explain my workflow, from culling to editing to preparing the images for my blog.
It was a fantastic day and I am very keen to hold more one-to-one wedding photography workshops in the future. As I have found from the Redfern Crawley United workshops which I host with my great friend Liam Crawley, helping other photographers develop their business and improve their shooting techniques is extremely satisfying and I also think I learn new things as well. It’s also lots of fun!
I have held a number of one-to-one training days for photographers over the past couple of years but this is the first time I have also incorporated a shoot in to the day and I think that works especially well as it breaks up the day (talking business for 8 hours can be quite intense!) and also allows us to cover the more practical side of photography – especially off camera lighting, which is an area I find that lots of wedding photographers would like to improve on. I can then demonstrate my workflow and edit the images we have just taken.
I am going to be offering one-to-one wedding photography workshops, including a 2 hour shoot with a model, for £495 so please get in touch if you are interested in booking. Please note that to take part in one of these days you must be based at least 30 miles from Manchester.
A huge thank you to John, Kit for being such a fantastic model for us and to Laura Simpson from Laurel Weddings for making Kit’s stunning bouquet and flower headdress – they were amazing!
Here are some of the photographs I took during our shoot with Kit 🙂
